About us

WHAT SEPARATES VMMA FROM THE REST?

VMMA helps men, women, and children learn the discipline and philosophy of the martial arts to create a solid foundation for long-lasting confidence, improved fitness, and personal protection. The VMMA mission from day one is to support and empower adults and children, regardless of their age or stage, to benefit from safe martial arts training in a cooperative and professional student-centered environment.

• Our martial arts programs are geared not toward tournaments and competition preparation, but are designed, instead, with a real-world focus to enrich students of all ages and abilities. The VMMA team seeks to cultivate what Jigoro Kano called “mutual benefit” for all practitioners.

• The VMMA team believes in treating the practice of martial arts as an art, not a sport. There are no trophies or VIP awards on the walls of the school. The team is much happier to hang framed letters from local charities and community initiatives we sponsor or support each month.

• The martial arts are often confused with just a series of physical techniques. At VMMA, the martial arts actually encompass a philosophical attitude and approach to life, which gives the practitioner tools for self-defense, physical health, and mental discipline.
